I have a cat called Totty. That is not a comment on her sexual proclivities, or indeed mine, but a genuflection in the direction of the football club in whose shadow she was found abandonned.
Tottenham is one of the large clubs in this area of London which, along with Arsenal and Orient, vie for the loyalties of people in Walthamstow, or at least those who like the game enough to pay to watch it and don't see themselves turning out to support Walthamstow Red Star, Walthamstow Avenue or even mighty Walthamstow Village.
Nevertheless, supporting Spurs is often something of a secret vice. There seem to be more people willing to sport the red of Aresenal at Blackhorse Road for the trip down the Victoria line for a mid-week home game than there are willing to make their way to White Heart Lane, even though that ground is somewhat nearer. Don't ask me why. It is probably tribal and complicated.
