More chipboard.
This time, not Woolworths, but chipboard marking the passing of a business which most people will not notice having gone. The loss however is a serious mark of a deteriorating local business culture, if not quite the end of civilisation as we know it. The Handweaver's Studio and Gallery, for years a feature of an out of the way corner of the genteel neighbourhood of Haroldstone and Glenthorne Road, has been boarded up. The yards, looms and spindles are all on their way to new premises at 140 Seven Sisters Road.
I wish them good luck, but wish they hadn't boarded themselves up in the manner they have as they depart. It has left a small part of a very desirable neighbourhood they have no doubt long been welcome in looking uncharacteristically shabby.
As for the future, I hope the shop finds a new loving owner suitable to its surroundings soon. And perks its exterior up. It's a great little shop and a fine spot for someone with a niche market.
[Update 12 August 2009 I have spoken to the owner who says the sale is being handled by Strettons, though there is no sign outside the premises. She herself is not moving away from the neighbvourhood.]
What a seductive title! LOL
I could open a shop there and sell chestnuts. I just need some subsidies.
