I was waiting in for the postman in vain to see if I would get a gold-engraved invitation to the Inaugural Exhibition of artWorks Open which had its private viewing the other evening. This exhibition comprises up to three works per artist at the ArtWorks Project Space for artists and curators at 114 Blackhorse Lane, run by the Barbican Artist Group Trust.

It would have been interesting to be there at the private view to see who the judges, Charlotte Hodes, 2006 winner of the Jerwood Drawing Prize and Timothy Hyman, an artist and writer had chosen.

Sadly, it was not to be, so I eventually diverted all the office phones and took myself off to Sainsbury's to buy some catfood. What should I see though, as I passed through check-out, but an invitation posted up on the wall as if to all and sundry to see what the judges considered fit for the two-week "diverse and innovative" exhibition which was the prize? I hope it wasn't left by a disgruntled entrant who hadn't made the cut. It will still be on till the 25th June.
