Having been banging on about the price of tomatoes in Sainsbury's, I find it impossible to go into Lidl for a bar of their chocolate without taking a look at the tomato situation there.

As I suspected, Lidl have not hiked up their tinnned tomatoes to 38p a tin. They are still piling them up at 33p, which until a couple of days ago was the price that Sainsbury's were offering their basics range at.

A check on the fresh tomatoes reveals that Lidl have sold out of beef tomatoes, which were at 99p a kilo, but still have plenty of tomatoes still on the vine, also at 99p a kilo. Cherry tomatoes, in plastic packs, sell for 34p for 250 grammes, which as any fool knows, is 128p a kilo, significantly less than at Sainsbury's. The Turkish shop still wins hands down at 64p a kilo, unless you grow your own.
