On Thursday 8th January at 7.30pm, Dr Neil Houghton will be giving an illustrated talk at the Walthamstow Historical Society on "A V Roe in Walthamstow and the Centenary of the British Aeroplane".
This is to help mark the centenary of the historic flights made in the Lea valley marshes by this neglected British aviation pioneer. I have mentioned this chap before in a couple of posts - when discussing the Vestry House Museum, and the Pump House Museum, and also a local mechanical workshop in St James's Street where I speculated that someone was building their own re-entry vehicle or somesuch. (They aren't - the place looks very inactive). I often wonder if there will ever again be a time in the UK when people will actually be able to make things, let alone make new things which people want.
The talk will be at Main Hall, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, Greenleaf Road, Walthamstow (located just off Hoe Street, near the Rose & Crown Public House).
Will you be going there?
