There is a small alley from the side of the St James's Street station which leads from the side of Station Flowers. There is not normally much that is very remarkable about it, other than as a barometer of the Kier rubbish disposal contract and as a thoroughfare to the square with the 212 and 275 buses terminating in it. It is also usable as a short-cut over to the High Street, where one can enter at Baltika and Lidl.
The square, Courtenay Place, faced as it is with the back of many St James's Street and High Street shops is not particularly interesting, but it does have considerable potential, if premises could be built which faced into it. The large area used by the buses could be replaced by something as interesting as a covered artisans' market like they have in Greenwich. Heaven knows, we have plenty of talent with which to populate such a space.
Someone seems to have noticed this, albeit on a small scale, as there are currently workmen converting three of the large brick railway arches under the platforms of St James's Street station into small shops/workshop units, at the end of this alley and facing into the square.
