I mentioned in a post last Sunday about the attack on the premises of a publisher of Sherry Jones's novel, The Jewel in the Medina, that the acts had been characterized as 'terrorism' by the Metropolitan Police in the media.
I note that while a huge row rages following the 'resignation' of the man at the top of that force, (See Boris's tribute here) the news has been released that the men arrested have been charged. Abrar Mirza, 22, has been charged with two others with 'intending to destroy or damage property with intent to endanger life, and being reckless as to whether the life of another would thereby be endangered.'
Abrar Mirza is a phone salesman. He lives in Eastfield Road, Walthamstow, not far from the top of the High Street, off Church Hill. The other defendants are minicab driver Abbas Taj of Forest Gate and Ali Beheshti a 40-year-old unemployed resident of Tavistock Gardens, Ilford. Beheshti was further charged with 'possession of a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas contrary to the Firearms Act'.
