If ever there was an example of how much location matters, it is this business. To the casual observer, this is a junk shop. To the keen eyed appreciator of early 70s retro, Amma's at 6 Station Road is an Aladdin's cave, which in another more trendy location would be considerably more expensive.

I think that Amma's is correct to describe itself as a second hand store rather than a junk shop, because not much that is in here is junk. It may be old, but most of it is in very good nick, even with its boxes, and all of it should be of interest to someone. A recent sortie to look at what was gracing the front windows had a wide range on offer - tea services, model china cottages, a round Bush electric alarm clock, golf clubs, glass vases, cookware, light fittings, lamps, electric, slow cookers, a magimix - I felt as if I'd teleported back to the conveyor belt of the Generation game. Further inside were scent bottles, TVs, music systems, a boxed plastic dinosaur and even a cuckoo clock. None of it seemed expensive to me.

Amma's is a few yards down the road from Kute Cutz Hair and Beauty (there is currently an empty shop being advertised for rent between them). They are open gentleman's hours: On Tuesdays from 10.00am to 7.00pm, Thursday and Friday from 10.30am to 7.00pm, and on Saturday from 11.00am to 5.00pm. Sunday is a day of rest.
