On the door of 56 St James's Street, the sign says Michael Bell. The door also has a reassuring sticker promoting the World Wildlife Fund with a panda and the slogan 'I'm taking action for a living planet'.
I am not sure what action a Walthamstow bookkeeper can take for a living planet, at least in St James's Street as there is precious little wildlife about. That is, if you ignore the pigeons who lurk on the roofs and under the railway bridge, the rats, mice and cockroaches which sometimes sneak into the local restaurants and, of course, the late night foxes who bark at each other as they go on their rounds at three o'clock most mornings.
Michael Bell Accounting is actually the trading name of Walthamstow Bookkeeping Services Ltd, a firm which I understand has some twenty years standing providing bookkeeping services to local businesses. The premises are also listed in some directories as containing Michael Bell and Co. which, from the name, may be related. When I recently called in to ask about the services they offer, explaining that it was in order to put them on this blogsite, they did not have a brochure available, but a very friendly member of staff gave me a copy of their letterhead, emphasizing that they are general book-keepers. She declined to be be drawn on which specific type of accountants, (chartered, certified or whatever) if any, they were.
The FCA in the firm's email address, Michaelbell.fca@btconnect, might be taken to refer to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Oddly enough though, a search on that body's website under the name Micheal Bell only comes up with a firm of accountants of that name registered at 4 Greenfield Road, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, HD9 2JT, UK. I have no idea what that's all about.
Theirs is the very tidy and well-maintained set of offices on the corner with Station Road, opposite the Coach and Horses. Not to be confused with the nearby UK Accountant Ltd or the firm of bookmakers. Next door, at number 58, is Lolek.
