At No 36A St. James's St,next door to the Fish Bar and facing Mr Jacks across the Frederick Street corner is Madisons Estate Agents. They seem to specialise in low-end rentals, as there is no board with pictures of the places on offer in the window like there are in the estate agencies in Hoe Street, at Star Mortgage and Property Services down the road or in the windows of The Right Property Experience in the High Street.
There is a plastic sign on a chain with gothic lettering saying 'Rentals' hanging in the window to the left of the front door. This sign reminds me of the 'vacancies' signs that some very traditional bed and breakfasts have hanging outside on little gibbets by the seaside. Beneath this, today was handwritten sign on green dayglow card offering '2-3 bedrooms, 'very clean', for £220'. I presume that is per week. This seems slightly more than the range of starting prices advertised as the come-on for the punters at Elite Property Services a few yards up the road.
To the right of the door, the same card advertises the availability of 'Vita Vita' Portuguese Villa, while another tells us that unmodernised properties are 'always wanted'.
