There are a few places for people to put their cars legally in the St James's Street and High Street area. The council has a largish car park behind the Turkish shop, though this one can get quite full quite fast on busy shopping says. Lidl also has a car park. Both of these are approached from Mission Grove, a road which runs parallel to the High Street and links Blackhorse Road with Palmerston Road. There are car parks at Sainsbury's and the Mall.
Less well known is the compact but handy St James's Street car park. This is situated behind the public toilets and is accessed from the small industrial estate bounded by St James's Street and South Grove. Although there are two nearby doctor's surgeries and a dentist, no-one has yet decided to add insult to injury and rip off the punters to the extent that they do at Whipp's Cross. The car park is a pay and display car park that from 9.00am to 5.00pm costs £1 for the first hour, £2 for 2, £3 for 4 hours and £5 for all day. Season tickets are available. For this, one can park handily for the station, St. James Health Centre, Brunner Medical Centre, Sun City Tanning Salon, WH Smith, Planet Pizza, Four Seasons, the Bengal Curry House, or even go about one's business in the industrial estate at South Grove and Brunner Road.
