Michael Franklin is the dispensing chemists at 51-55 St James's Street, to the right of the path leading to St James Health Centre. As well as its presence being attested by the large sign with a blue background, its presence is drawn to the attention of pedestrians by the large tubs of E45 cream, the vitamins, zinc tablets and boxes of hair dye on display in the windows. Other items to attract in the passing trade include boxes of bandages and a special glass case of 'gift ideas' with electric toothbrushes in pride of place.
They fill prescriptions when open (which is only on Mondays to Fridays from 9.00am to 6.30pm. They take an hour for lunch from 1.30pm to 2.30pm). They also sell perfumes, soap, shampoos, shaving requisites and provide a passport photo service. In this regard they are similar to the nearby Pill Box, though the latter also provides a service to the public on Saturdays.
