Back in 2004, the Londis chain of stores operated on a basis rather like Costcutter, providing a brand image, products and services to a network of independent store owners.

Things were not going as well as they could be, competition from the big retailers like Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda being what it was, and there was some talk of the stores switching their allegiance to Costcutter. (A similar approach by Big Food Group, which owns the Iceland, was also made a few months prior to that.) The approaches didn't work out, and in the end the group was sold to Irish-owned wholesaler Musgrave.

The branch of Londis at the junction of Coppermill Lane and Edward Road, next door to Neriman's Hair Design is a relatively small one, competing with the Costcutter at the top of the road and Satya Sai Newsagent, for business selling newspapers, magazines, cigarettes, alcohol for people who want to drink at home instead of enjoying the Coppermill pub, bus tickets, sweets, snacks, milk, groceries, ambient goods, (stuff like jams and biscuits that doesn't go off quickly) toys and greetings cards and the other small purchases that people make when they are just going to nip into the shop as they go about their daily lives in this very desirable residential neighbourhood.

Open from 7.00am to 9.00pm Monday to Saturdays and from 7.30am to 2.00pm on Sundays.
