I bet most people think the TV repairman is dead. I would tend to agree, if the facts before my eyes did not suggest otherwise.
My intuition that in the age of built-in obsolescence and the throw-away consumer society no-one fixes anything is repeatedly confounded by the existance of the Pal Audio Visual Centre in St James's Street and the presence at 145 Coppermill Lane of Adrian Irwin. This business announces that it does a whole host of things that many people think no-one does any more this side of the Sahara, such as fixing TVs, Videos, Hi-Fis and other electrical goods. But year after year, the business stays open, offering repairs and electrical installations, as well as aerial and cable services. I suspect these are not activities which Walthamstow customers by themselves can support, as a look on the internet indicates that Adrian Irwin seems to be drawing custom for these specialized and probably now rare skills from all over London. It is also quite interesting how many plaintiff requests for information about reliable repairmen there are on the web. People seem quite sentimental about their tellies and hi-fis it seems.
The shop is unmissable on Coppermill lane, standing at the corner of Cassiobury Road with a bright yellow sign over the windows with bold black lettering.
