At 151 Coppermill Lane, next door to Londis, there is another hairdressers to complement Savvas up the road. This one, however gives the mainly elderly female clientelle an outstanding view of the comings and goings along Coppermill Lane and Edward Road, which makes up the T Junction in front of it. This vantage point is available from 9.00am to 5.30pm Tuesdays to Fridays, and until 7.00pm in Fridays and 6.00pm on Saturdays. Tel 0208 952 9637.
In most of the directories and on the signage the establishment is described as unisex, but I have never seen men in there having their hair done. The place is quite close to the Coppermill Primary School on Edward Road and the Coppermill Park on the opposite corner, which may explain vaguely why it also has a number of primary school reports on the notice board on the left hand wall. In the left window they have a sign up about Missing Madelaine and an advert for Shingaar Beauty Corner, whereby Amarjit (Beauty Therapist) will provide 'Treatments', such as waxings, facials, threading, pedicure, manicure, body massage, nail art, henna and eye lash tinting if she is phoned on 07778557025.
To the right of the entrance is a sign in support of the St James's Street Library campaign (which has strong backing in this part of the borough) and one saying 'If we please you tell others, if not tell us'. This, of course is the exact opposite of how things work in most cases, bad news being what travels furthest (and fastest), and people generally being very defensive when receiving direct criticism. I should say, that never having been a customer here, I am in no position to comment on the quality of the hair care or other beauty services on offer.
