There was quite a collection of fire fighting equipment parked on the Douglas Eyre Centre's playing fields midweek, tackling a blaze of tyres. These had been lawfully dumped in a residential area ages ago. The "brown field" ground has been earmarked for the construction of a huge "green" concrete tower block complex (if the recession in the building industry and the credit crunch hasn't killed it off).
The Blackhorse Action Group have been following the machinations surrounding this proposed development for some time and have a good link on their site to photos of the fire. I saw the fire on Wednesday afternoon but it did not seem so big at the time, and I decided not to have a gawp. The fire brigade were still pumping water onto it the following afternoon.
