Over the road from the Moonlight Food Store is a business which considers there is scope for longer evening opening hours, as the Delight Kebab and Cafe is currently applying for a premises license to extend its opening hours from 11.00pm to midnight from Sunday to Thursday and from 11.00pm to 3.00am on Fridays and Saturdays. The owner tells me that he is sure there is business at these later times, judging by his 11.00pm trade. (A late night trip past places like the Cock, which is sometimes heaving at the midnight hour, suggests he may have a point, though I am not so sure about 3.00am).
This is not just a take-away kebab house convenient for the young late night commuters who stumble on with their journeys from after work drinks in pubs in the City at St James's Street station. Delight operates a sit in cafe and are proud of their breakfasts, which range from Set 1 (Egg, Bacon, Sausage, Beans, Tea or Coffee and 2 slices of Bread or Toast at ₤3.30) to Set 7 (Egg,Bacon, Sausage, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, home-made Bubble and Squeak, Tea or Coffee and 2 slices of Bread or Toast at ₤4.90).
They sell an extensive range of sandwiches, burgers and omlettes (Plain at ₤3.50, Spanish at ₤3.90). A humus pita bread with salad is ₤2. Chips come in regular sized portions for ₤1 and large for ₤1.20
There is, of course, the large range of the Kebabs, including a Halep at ₤5.00, which has a mushroom, onion, tomato, carrot and cabbage sauce to accompany it), though a basic small lamb doner can be had for ₤3.30, the large one for ₤4.00.
There is no alcohol for sale. Tea is 60p.
