At No 7 St James's Street, opposite Ronald Brown Opticians, and to the right of Oxfam is the brown peeling varnish of the shop frontage of Star Utilities, once seriously described by their proprietor as 'UK Leading Utilities Suppliers' (Tel 0208 520 0139).
The shutters are very much down on this business, and have been for many months to judge by the old radiator, mattress, sheets of chipboard and the cardboard box marked 'wall hung gas boiler' which can be espied through the dusty windows and link shutters by anyone curious enough to look. I don't know when the pickings got so slim that the decision was made to close up shop, but in its hay day, the enterprise apparently also doubled as a hive of health advice, if the 'Lose Weight Now, Ask Me How' sticker on the front door is anything to go by.
