At 243A High Street, is an upstairs beauty salon (or Hair and Beauty Spa, as they describe it), specializing in micro-weaving Afro-Caribbean hair.
Unlike so many places, they are happy to hand out a leaflet to any potential customers giving clear information about their range of prices. These begin with a trim for £5; a wash and set for £10; a dry tong for £10.00; steam set/tong for £15/£18; dyeing from £15-£20; wash and tong £20, texturising £20; corn row (children and men) from £20; treatment set/tong £20/£25; wash, cut style £25; round brush and tong £25; natural twist £25/£30; relax (with own cream) with trim £25, (without cream) £30, (with treatment and trim) £35.
Prices escalate from then on, with a curly perm at £35, bonding (free extension) from £40 to plaits (free extension) from £60.
One service I am not clear about is something called 'Virgin hair' from £35-£40. Maybe I should have one of their free hair consultations. (Tel 07950 285 957, or 0208 520 9305)
I have to congratulate Selina Debrah (UK) [slogan: "Get the Diva Look At Very Affordable Prices"] for being willing to be so open with their customers about the costs involved that they would have a printed leaflet available for customers to take away. Too many hairdressers leave their customers in the dark about how much things are going to cost, until the customer is inside, sat down and maybe even already having work done. I am not an expert on the beauty market and cannot comment on the styles etc, but am assuming that Selina Debrah (UK) customers may be similar to those patronising Classic Hair Salon and Glamour, and will be interested in buying hair products from shops such as Hollywood Cosmetics, Hair and Beauty UK Ltd and Afro Cosmetics (London). Add to that a trip to the local nail bars, such as Red Hot Nails or Excel World (I would recommend the popular Unique Nails if they were clearer about their prices) and there is no excuse for everyone not to look great.
