Empty Shops

by technomist @ 2008-03-25 - 21:32:44

Between Percy Ingle and the British Heart Foundation is an empty shop. It has an excellent position opposite the Central Library and is less than thirty yards from a prime piece of real estate called the 'arcade site' which is considered by some to be ripe for a major redevelopment, even if it won't be the new Walthamstow Guggenheim that some have wished. Thirty yards in the other direction is the site of the Farmer's Market on Sundays and our famous Walthamstow Market the rest of the time. This shop ought to be snapped up.

But then, so should a number of other currently empty premises on the High Street: the site of the old Unique Nails shop, next door to Amin Opticians is not being used at present. A former hairdressers stands empty at Palace Parade next door to Eye Fashions. (I wonder what it is about being next to opticians that is so bad for trade: perhaps its a bad place to try to get noticed.)

The site of the hairdressers formerly known as Ikon are available to rent. There is no activity at the Cheltenham and Gloucester's site. Animal Magic has stood empty for months, as has the old Burger King next door to French Kiss and Sainsbury's.

Over on Coppermill Lane, the shop at 1A, Jewels Fashion and Accessories seems to be available for people looking for a suitable site, while on St James's Street, there are opportunities next door to Moonlight Food Store at the site of Xtreme Mobiles, as well as a derelict business next to Oxfam, called Star Utilities, which may be related to the Star Mortgage & Property Services.
