Up the little flight of step by the Gul Enterprises kiosk is the entrance to Learn Direct Delta Club at 241 High Street. This organisation, set up to provide 'solutions for both individuals and businesses to grow' has its own website.

Unfortunately, having read the website, I have several questions left unanswered, because the website is not as comprehensive as it could be. The first, I always have when I look at bodies we are paying for, is what are the accounts like? What level of support are they getting from the local government in Walthamstow and other public bodies. Is this support enough for them to do their job as effectively as they would like?

I would also be interested to know, (other than the staff they employ directly), how many people they have helped into jobs or helped to set up businesses in the last year. There must be some success stories in Walthamstow, and I think it would be great to see them sharing these with us. Maybe they have an annual report of some kind which they could put on their site?

I know that for such organisations it can be difficult to demonstrate success in numeric terms, but there are some other ways of demonstrating effectiveness they could provide to the public: for instance, the site indicates that they offer networking events, seminars, workshops and conferences. If they had a diary for forthcoming events in Walthamstow on their site, so we can see what's coming up and how to attend, I am sure they would get a lot of interest from local businesses. That would be very helpful for people, who might be curious to know more, and find out about what some of the activities and benefits of the Waltham Forest Business Forum are, (which Learn Direct Delta Club also hosts).

In the meantime, to find out more, one can email 'info' or phone: 020 8509 6464 during office hours. Downstairs at 241 are Afro Cosmetics.

Many local businesses meanwhile use the time-honoured method of putting a notice in the window to attract staff.
