Sharing the corporate presentation with Textile Centre Ltd, to its left, is ttcshop.co.uk, which is already up and running on line. Physically occupying the right portion of the Textile Centre's double frontage, this business concentrates on linens, quilts, bedding and curtains.
This business started out as a market stall in 1987, a model of development which many in the local authority should take note of. It is my view that they currently fail to support our traders as well as they should. Instead, they place bureaucratic and other barriers to entry into business, in the way of the next generation of local young entrepreneurs. There should be an active programme of micro-finance and business training for young people who wish to go into this area of endeavour. This should be accompanied by a serious change of attitude where licensing, pitch fees and allocation policies are concerned for people who wish to give their new business ideas a trial in our High Street.
ttcshop's competitors these days are BHS and similar outlets in the Mall as well as a few other market traders and businesses like Linen Direct. Next door is Bexters News.
