On the opposite corner of Westbury Road from Barclays is a business with a large array of cooking pots and plastic wares beneath an awning, above which there is a sign with white letters in black lettering saying Clancy's Cut Price. In fact the outside pots are a spill-over of their cheaper ranges from the C.K. Pots and Pans referred to in the signs facing the High Street. (Tel 0208 521 7602)
On the stall outside are some extremely cheap items, such as a wafer thin Tri-Star pot at £1, and packets of stainless steel cutlery. The pots on offer do go up the range to include aluminium sets sufficient to feed a whole extended family and all their hangers-on for £40. Inside there are better quality pieces and more kitchen gadgets, including a wide range of trays, thermos flasks and pestles and mortars. The collection of these mortars is worth any self-respecting foodie knowing about, as they have a variety of shapes and sizes.
They also have some almond shaped ones suitable for grinding and mixing cosmetics such as kohl, or as it is variously known, sirma, kajal, katuka, kan mai, kaadige etc. (It is used by women as a type of eyeliner that is put around the edge of the eyes.) The staff in this shop are friendly and happy to discuss their wares with anyone who is interested. They are next door to A.N.A.'s, and also boast a stall selling corn snack and a phone card kiosk as part of their enterprise.
