Bartok without the Smetana.

According to the Website at the Waltham Forest Arts Club, the Forest Philharmonic will be performing Smetana, Dvorak and Bartok on Sunday 22 June 2008, 7.30pm at the Assembly Hall.

Gemma Rosefield will play cello. Tickets for the Stalls cost £9 (concessions £7)and the Balcony £13 (concessions £10.

However, people hoping to see our local orchestra playing locally would be advised to double check: a visit to the Philharmonic's own website indicates that the concert, without the Smetana, is on the bill at 6.00pm at St John's Smith Square.

I'd rather have the Smetana. However, I'm too far away to get a lick of that.

    I also like some of Smetana's compositions. It's years sinced I heard anything like Ma Vlast in concert - Albert Hall style.

        Neither did I. According to the ever reliable Wikipedia, the game was invented by some students in 1975. Maybe it was, but in 1980 I played a drinking game with very similar 'rules' in Czechoslovakia with some conscript soldiers of the old CSSR. It does not at all surprise me that the game is known as Bartok. Not speaking much more Czech than the word 'pivo', I got rapidly wasted.

        Pivo... I know of that one.
        
        My mother always said that Czech was the only language she knew of without vowels. However, she was not au fait with Pivo which contains two.
