It was thought there might be a spot of winter weather on 3 March 2008 and the gritters were sent out in Walthamstow. I wondered if it would be worth the effort. It wasn't. There was a starry sky all night and no snow fell, let alone settled.

I read your title and thought what on earth are gritters? Almost forgot they emerge from the woodwork at the first flutter of snow...big hugs....
