This shop used to be next to the entrance of Orientex in a small window kiosk which sells many different coloured zips (14" for 25p), threads, ribbons, laces and brocades.
It has now expanded and moved a few yards down the road, into the middle part of the now divided up Benny Dee. To its right is MA, primarily selling lingerie. To the left is the business formerly known as Orientex Mobile.
As has been remarked to me by several visitors to this site, there is apparently an unusually high number of fabric shops on our High Street, compared to many of the bland, chainstore deserts which many parts of the UK have become. It is therefore not as odd as it may seem that someone could make a living with such a niche business and actually be able to expand it. Further down the High Street there are four fabric shops: Hussain Fabrics, Fabric Store, New Fabric Store and PCE Fabric Store. At Connexions they sell trimmings,at Time2Talk prints and batiks, and Shanze Hairdressers offers alterations. There are several fine market stalls selling trimmings, zips and fabric and other fabric stores further up the hill, such as the Textile Centre.
The Haberdashery has recently added to the choice within its previous ranges and is also now stocking wool, knitting needles, knitting patterns, sewing machine oil, scissors, crochet cottons, crochet hooks, a large range of embroidery yarns, lace, beads and sequins.
