I think its a very generous, genuine gesture. I found out about this because a local councilor told me- he'd been told by Tom that it was a pity they hadn't been able to publicize the lunch in a recent party leaflet drop that had gone through nearly 6000 local letter-boxes. Tom seems to genuinely want to gather a large crowd for these lunches.
I could be that. There are generous people out there, it is true. He'll have problems feeding 6000 if it happens, unless you have seen him walking on water. That would be handy this weekend...
He is to be congratulated on such a kind gesture. Hope people turn up and reward his efforts.
I hope he hasn't bitten off more than the guests can chew. ![]()
Someone should tell BBC London. It is so rare to get a good news story and that will be one that the media would report on for Christmas
I looks like a spratt to catch a mackerel or should it be a turkey to catch a chicken ?
I don't think so in this case, though I know what you mean.
The man is running a business so of course there must be some financial gain - immediate or longer term. Nonetheless, I think he desrves full credit for the method chosen.
Moreover, once in a while I'd like to cast my cynicism aside and imagine that there might be some genuinely good people out there - or am I being naive???
Yes tell the BBC -he deserves some publicity for his generosity
I'm sure the BBC can read this blog like anyone else if they want to. Though I suspect they would see this as only a local story.
If their journalists think its more than that, and they are worth even one thousandth of Jonathan Ross's salary, as has recently been suggested, they should be able to surf the internet to find it?
Come on, we haven't got time to surf the web. The pubs are open!
Get a pint in for me. I've just got to read all these emails and I'll join you at the bar.
Nice man ...nice gesture..
Good business, but a kind gesture too. Nobody is forcing people to go back though I'm sure the guy hopes some will.
Good on him, I say!
Blimey - this has restored my faith in mankind! Hope it turns out well.
Tis an admirable thing to do for seniors; as an aging recipient of a good deal of kindness from government agencies helping me to survive, 'soup kitchens' [where I daily check on local and indigent men and women to ensure they're fed and shown care], weekly Saturday and Sunday United and Anglican church suppers where I discover the true meaning of giving, I know first hand the bounty it is to be offered a so-called 'free lunch;' free clothing and mental support, too.
So cudos to Tom and his staffed Cock.
good man. I think he deserve publicity
Bless. That's ace.
Well, doubtless there is a commercial or publicity calculation involved, but good on him!
May I guess that the fact that you have disappeared since your last post, indicated that it might have not been a free meal after all? ![]()
Sorry, I have not had much time for the last couple of weeks due to a combination of some voluntary work, running my business, and going away for Christmas, but I have been reading people's posts when notified to me by email.
I also didn't want to review the shops up my high street during the slightly artificial Christmas period (which is what I tend to post most blogs about). Now the decorations are down, I hope I'll be back at the blogging as soon as possible.
I have really missed you!
Those people are lucky! Sounds great
I think it has all been scoffed now. I'll be interested to see if he does it again next Christmas.
