The musicians of the Forest Philharmonic announced they will be performing on 16 December 2007, under conductor Mark Shanahan, during what could be their last season based in our borough, due to a mean and particularly philistine decision by the local council to price them out of their rehearsal and concert venue. (Interestingly, the Conservatives,of all people, who are in opposition locally, announced budget proposals in February 2008 which would seem to alleviate the financial pressures on cultural organizations using council facilities. They were not adopted, but they did look like they had given the matter some proper thought.)

The Philharmonic announced the performance of Dvorak's Slavonic dances, Janacek's Cunning Little Vixen Suite and Brahm's 4th Symphony on 16 December 2007 at 7.30pm at the Town Hall Assembly Rooms, Forest Road, Walthamstow. Tickets to be obtained from the Box Office on 01279 814951.

Local artist Valeria Bateson (tel 0208 521 0973) meanwhile produced some fine sketches of the musicians for display and sale in the window of our local Oxfam shop on the High Street.
