At 128-130 High Street used to stand a branch of Cheltenham and Gloucester plc, which is part of the Lloyds TSB empire.
This quiet branch closed on 30 November 2007. The nearest C&G branch is now at 36 Old Church Road, Chingford, tel 0208 529 0041.
The High Street branch had some friendly staff who had been handling branch savings accounts and mortgages. C&G also has postal and telephone access accounts.
The C&G does not do retail banking such as current accounts, nor do they have an internet savings account.
It has been replaced by Reed in Partnership, which as the workman fitting the shop out told me, is 'some kind of employment agency'.
