Cairn's Amusements is a slot machine operation at 124 High Street. It can be found between 1st Choice and St George's Jewellers.
The shopfront is plain, with heavy pink velvet curtains giving it the air of an Edwardian Parlour and completely obscuring the view inside. There is a large sign announcing that only over 18s are allowed inside.
On my recent visit, there were indeed only adults inside what is quite an intimate but no-frills place. The largest payouts are on the 500 pound slots, but none of these machines were free to play on, had I decided to soften my personal attitude, which is against gambling. I have gambled in the past, but now think its a mug's game and while games like poker can be interesting, on the whole it gets in the way of friendship and fun. Cairn's competes with two Quicksilvers on the High Street to coin in the local customers' cash.
