Those of us who are unaccustomed to routinely eating meat which has been prayed over should not be put off by this fact when considering using a local butcher's shop, especially when the prices in Sainsbury's are considered.
At the Halal Butchers at 135 High Street, next door to Tote Sport (and right opposite Sainsbury's) they offer meat for those who like it in larger quantities at some great prices. Just don't expect delicate cuts or the kind of rolled roasts one can get at Terry's.
20lbs of chicken legs can be had for ₤9.99,
5lb of mince for ₤6.99,
4 chickens for boiling for ₤3.99 and,
2 Cows Feet cost ₤2.99.

It is a long time since I visited a Halal butcher; we only have one independent butcher in my town. When I lived in Glasgow, my Sikh friend who taught me how to cook most of what I know about Indian cooking always recommended going to the local Halal butcher.
The meat was very well prepared for making curries or tandoori dishes with the skin and fat removed and the chicken cut into sensible pieces.
