At 113 High Street, between the Michael Young China Shop and the now shutWoolworths, is Pound Market. Apart from a very few exceptions (some plastic storage boxes) this shop keeps to its promise of selling everything for a pound.

It is a small shop, but it massively undercut the next door Woolworths's prices through its range of tools, accessories and fixings for small DIY projects, and has the wide range of small household items like shoelaces and sink and drain cleaners that Woolworths would have been stocking if they had not lost their reason for existence as a retailer.

At Pound Market one can buy a dozen plastic door wedges for a pound, or 36 cup hooks for a pound. They also do a range of picture frames which represent good value and sell sweets, cosmetics and, one of my High Street favourites, the wonderfully named Freedom brand toilet roll, (which can also be bought at Hollywood Cosmetics) at four rolls a pound.
