Along from Paddy Power is Jesse's Cafe, at 68 High Street, whose Cypriot-origined owner has another cafe in Chatham. As with the Walthamstove Cafe on the other side of the street, Breakfast Lunch and Dinner are served. The 'standard' breakfast comprises a gut-busting double bacon, double egg, beans, bubble, tinned tomatoes and fried bread, accompanied by 2 slices of bread and butter and orange juice or tea or coffee. This retails at four pounds fifty-five.
A less greedy all-day special breakfast can be had for three pounds sixty-five and involves a mere plate of bacon, sausage, egg, beans, bubble, mushrooms, toast and tea or coffee.
Those that can still move, can follow this with treacle pudding with custard, cream or ice cream if they like. If you don't fancy the various combinations on the Full English theme you can try grills, burgers, pies or plump for haddock with peas and chips for three eighty five.
For such a manly menu, the pink sign on white lettering is slightly incongruous, but the pink upholstered booth seating and pink tiling presumably also appeals for less calorific coffees and chat. This is a good place for a spot of loafing, watching any hairdos on their way home from Robert Barron or speculating on who had what at Red Hot Nails.
