Cassino Shoes, at 103 High Street, has racks outside selling bargain shoes and slippers, which start at three pounds and work there way through baskets at five pounds up to seven.

They currently have one of those 50% Sales which seem so common in the High Street, with no indication as to its duration. This seems quite prevalent in the shoe trade in particular, until one gets further up the High Street to a shop like Tower Boots. It can get quite out of hand, as at Brooklyn.

Cassino Shoes's prices, like those at Nikki, up the hill, do have the merit of being clearer than at Trust Shoes.

The premises have a sign on the door indicating that ratepayer's money has been spent on doing them up, as they have been grant assisted by the Walthamstow Town Centre Property Improvement Scheme. So has the Cock, down the road. The money is for businesses. There is no comparable money available for the improvement of the homes of people who live in the High Street area, as far as I can tell.
