Quicksilver is between Well Wear and the Fabric Store. Quicksilver's sign has a cherry red background. The lettering is gold for the word quick and silver for the word silver. There are two motifs of three cherries rampant to either side of the lettering.
Over the door is a sign saying over 18s only. One can't see inside. The windows have a huge photograph on it, implying what might be inside. This would be a group of women, all under the age of thirty, waving their hands in the air so that their shaven armpits are on display for their fellows. All the women are grinning in that insincere way that mediocre advertising executives (I refuse to call them 'creatives',) think denotes fun and wholesome excitement.
Some other advertising executives, or maybe the same ones, recently just avoided employment in a fast food restaurant by agreeing with some talentless manager who came up with a campaign. The idea was to persuade any sad lonely people who may be in two minds about throwing their money and self respect away inside, that they can 'join in' while placing coins in slots. So they placed a poster in the window advertising a 'Halloween Howler' - Free plays (how many and when is not specified) - Free Draws (Ditto, nor are the prizes clear), Free Refreshments - (not specified), Fancy Dress. This was completed with the slogan 'Dare you play'. A Fancy Dress Slot Machine Party. Not the highlight of everyone's social year. Great idea, boss. Would you like fries with that?
There is another branch further up the High Street,as well another slots operation at Cairn's Amusements. We also have Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and the Tote all vying for the punters' cash, and another firm, Metrobet, is planning to muscle in on the action.
