How does one sell the idea of having nail extensions? The colour Pink seems to be key, despite this shop  intending to offer its services of Professional Nailcare for Ladies and Gents in a neighbourhood not particularly noted for its open acceptance of the softer, more metrosexual kind of gentleman. In Walthamstow we tend to be tolerant rather than embracing and celebrating of issues relating to freedom of sexuality, a sort of 'don't ask don't tell' kind of neighbourhood. Don't get me wrong, we are not sterotypical East End working class conservatives in this district - the electorate in the High Street favours Liberal Democracy - but some discretion is advised between strangers.

I have never myself seen any of the Gentlemen sought out as customers by Unique Nails sitting in full view of the High Street having the Nail Extensions, Airbrush Extensions, Nail Art, Pedicures, Waxing or Spray Tanning which are on offer. Perhaps the huge Pink expanse of the sign which used to be at number 21 High Street and which is replicated at No.22 (between Tagone Telecom and Beste Erkuk Berber Salonu) and the large open windows can account for this. As a result, the God of Money - (Fortune Collecting Cat) -  which greets customers on entry is instead appeased by the contributions predominantly from the female portion of the local population. Women hold up more than half the sky in this enterprise. How fortunate the Vietnamese Chinese owners of this thriving and useful business have been, as a result of the favourable Fung Shui their God engenders, can be seen by the continual stream of custom at all hours into their world of beauty.

The only puzzling note in the window at the old premices was struck by the fading poster indicating that a lady with lovely toenails who plays violin would also burden her fingering hand with one and a half inch extensions,  Maybe on her bowing hand if she does not intend to pluck, but surely not on both! I always thought I should phone 0208 521 6730 and tell them about this musical mystery at the heart of their advertising strategy. On the other hand, it worked. I hope now the poster is gone at their new premises that business will still flourish.
